For Northwest artist David Repyak, art and life are all about relationship. “Struck at an early age by the beauty and power of the natural world.” David has spent this last year creating a new collection of portrait and landscape oil paintings, drawing on a lifetime of influence from the natural world and his connections to it. David, who earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y., S.U. London Center, and his K-8 teaching certification from University of Washington, is a Montessori classroom teacher, an art teacher and an artist. He has studied with members of the American Watercolor Society and with professional artists from Gage Academy. David finds his inspiration in nature, and in collaboration with other artists. He has been a lead Elementary Teacher and Artist Educator with Washington elementary schools for the past decade.
My goal as a teaching artist is to design and execute a positive, educational and creative experience for students, teachers and the local community. It is my hope that with more attention placed on process than on product, student artwork will lift the soul and inspire an understanding of life. I also incorporate multi-cultural arts education as a teaching tool for self-discovery and cultural awareness. I believe art has the power to transform thinking and engage students in learning. Integrating art into the core curriculum strengthens learning across multiple disciplines, builds students'
self-esteem, and offers a constructive means of visual expression.
I have deep respect and patience with children. Step-by-step lessons follow a gradual release model and allow students to independently solve problems, make decisions and think creatively while developing strong skills of observation. Each lesson is developmentally age-level appropriate, and curriculum is integrated into other subject areas to meet WA state standards. I reserve time at the end of each lesson to communicate and share in a critique. Independent and group projects guide students' self-discovery from multiple perspectives. Introducing students to the Principles of Art across all media, I encourage self-confidence, creative thinking, and collaborative problem solving as students learn to create, perceive, understand and evaluate. I am respectful of all children's unique abilities when guiding for academic and social/emotional growth. I recognize the importance of observation, unbiased judgment, positive discipline, and intrinsic motivation to assist those who are struggling.

Our journey began on an island in the middle of the Salish Sea when a few young solar flares decided to make their presence known. Parents noticed their children’s gifts, and asked if we would offer art lessons to support individual academic learning, fine and gross motor coordination, and social/emotional development. 1-on-1 Art Instruction traveled at the speed of light from Bainbridge Island to a second location serving the Eastside and Seattle. Inspired by the seasonal play of water and light, we expanded exponentially to include plein air painting workshops for adults, abstract landscape painting across all mediums, portraiture, drawing from life, and creating original commissioned artwork.
We now offer Summer Art Programs for elementary students.
